Abstract

TThe barrel-projectile interaction during the interior ballistics of an APFSDS ammunition in a 105 mm smoothbore cannon is analyzed by using a finite element model implemented in the LS-DYNA software. The projectile is rigid with flexible obturator. Simulations considering the rigid and flexible tube were performed.
Mass unbalanced projectiles were studied. A static analysis was executed to obtain the deformation of the tube due to gravity and then the dynamic analysis of the barrel-projectile interaction was performed. The results show that the projectile mass unbalance and the barrel deformations modify the dynamics of the projectile during the interior ballistics, influencing the balloting phenomenon and changing the projectile conditions at the muzzle of the gun. Therefore, the barrel-projectile interaction influences the accuracy
and the precision of the shot
