From French to US influence: Blitzkrieg analyses in the journal “A Defesa Nacional” (1936-1944)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the publications on military doctrine in the journal “A Defesa Nacional” during World War II. The focus is on the transition from the influence of France to that of the United States of America. Through the Blitzkrieg phenomenon, a clear changeover from the Brazilian emulation of French doctrine to that of the US can be seen. Such a passage had as a milestone the failure of the French military in 1940 and the emergence of a new form of warfare deployed by the German Army. The method in question was assimilated by the Allied armies during the conflict and came to Brazil especially via military alliance, which linked the country to the United States as of 1942.
