Army innovation and transformation management

Abstract
Technology-intensive and knowledge-intensive sectors have played a central role in the current “Age of Knowledge”, accelerating the capital and communication. Their application of innovations, but also widening the gap between countries. This phenomenon was reflected in the defense sector of the countries, which began to adopt processes of modernization and military (or defense) transformation, pioneered in the United States of America (USA). Basically, military transformation is promoted through technological and non-technological innovations. Brazil, in tune with its growing geostrategic importance, has been seeking to implement its own defense transformation. Thus, this study addresses the issue of transformation in the Brazilian Army, presenting the characteristics of innovation from the neo-Schumpeterian perspective and its peculiarities in the defense sector, with the aim of highlighting the importance of innovation as a motor of the process. Finally, based on the literature analyzed, the paper presents general recommendations for military transformation. Methodologically, bibliographic and documentary research was used for data collection and discourse analysis technique, structured according to the methodology of Prof. Sylvia Constant Vergara, in the processing of collected data.
