Abstract

This work presents a three-dimensional model of a three-axle vehicle with independent MacPherson suspensions and with front and intermediate steering axles. The model is developed using MATLAB software. Two tests are simulated: the first, considering suspension accommodation to vehicle weight, and the other doing a double lane-change maneuver in low velocities. The kinematic transformers method is used to consider the nonlinearities provided by suspension geometry. The suspension accommodation results are compared with the results of a two-axle vehicle. Then, the double lane-change maneuver results are qualitatively analyzed. It is concluded that the inserction of a new axle adds a new source of forces in the chassis, explaining the differences obtained in the dynamic behavior of the two axle and three axle vehicle.
