Abstract

This paper aims to verify which are the critical factors in the demobilization of engineering company (ENGCOY) in a United Nations peacekeeping mission,
carryng out a case study of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). Thus, at first, it seeks to identify what already exists in the doctrines of
the United Nations, the Defensy Ministry, and the Brazilian Army; identify the main operational activities and critical factors in the demobilization of a peace operations engineering unit; and analyze the actions employed in the demobilization of the Peace Force Engineering Company of Brazil in Haiti. After that, it analyzes MINUSTAH’s demobilization process, during planning, preparation and execution, and the activities carried out by the Brazilian ENGCOY sections in this process. The conclusion demonstrates that recent experience is an important data to complement the existing doctrine in the end of a peacekeeping mission; it also presents critical points in demobilization activities, becoming an important knowledge for future brazilian participations.
