Abstract

The present study aims to analyze how the existence of a georeferencing system increases the command and control capacity of armored Task Force commanders subunit level in the investment to an locality. The methodology used in the present study was based on a literature review from 1982 during the war in Lebanon, interviews with military specialists in armored troops of Brazil and the world’s main armies, communications specialists and cartographic engineers. Finally, a simulated tactical training exercise with simulators at the Armored Instruction Center. We have analyzed the main georeferencing systems currently used, with emphasis on the following: Blue Tracking Force and Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below originally American; SCORPION and Fantassin to the Équipement et Liaisons Intégrés of French origin and the Management of the Battlefield of national origin. The results have demonstrated a significant increase in the rate of progression in urban areas; improvement in the navigation capacity of combat vehicles within a locality; transmission of clearer and more detailed orders to subordinates, reduction of the flow of radio messages; increased situational awareness of friendly troops and enemy positions; and the decrease of fratricide rates during the investment in urban areas
