Abstract

This article is a demonstration of the operation of a new equipment in Brazil, which uses fiber optic sensors to measure the impact force that rail vehicles wheels cause on permanent track rails. In addition, it covers the analysis of the relationship between train speed and impact force. With the data, it was concluded that it was not possible to establish a single equation that satisfactorily correlates impact force and speed, according to the analysis of Simple Linear Regression, given the variability of railway vehicles. However, it is possible to construct safety curves to reduce the impact on the railway operation and the risks of accidents and occurrences with broken rails.
