Abstract

Human beings need a lot of electricity in their daily lives. But most of our traditional sources of electricity are still inefficient and scarce, and often dependent on the “mood” of nature itself. thermonuclear fusion technolog y born in the 1930s and 1940s is independent of nature’s will, efficient and abundant. However, and like everything in nature has advantages and disadvantages. The human race has matured nuclear technolog y of past, but prefers to invest in a safer and more efficient physical process like nuclear fusion. The fact is that every day future of electric power seems to be intertwined and dependent on scientific and technical results obtained with advances of controlled thermonuclear fusion. This article discusses its importance, its machines, its scientific difficulties, as well as benefits and care necessary for conscious use of this technolog y. The fact that there are different technologies for obtaining the fusion reaction explains how nuclear fusion is an important mechanism for energ y of the future, locating developments in past, present and for future in obtaining electricity. It shows how nuclear fusion reaction is capable of generating a lot of energ y, and thus, producing a lot of electricity through nuclear-electrical process efficiently and safely. Discusses the promising types of magnetic confinements for production of fusion and their respective machines in operation in world. Finally, it presents and discusses path that humanity has traced to implement controlled thermonuclear fusion engineering to obtain the first nuclear fusion reactor in history by year 2025 with a Tokamak machine.
