Abstract

Virtual simulations have been growing in importance for manpower training, but it is important to portray reality with a satisfactory degree of fidelity. In this work, we applied a modified DBSCAN clusterization method, along with pre and post data processing, to obtain routes representative of ship's common behavior in a port zone from AIS messages, in order to use them to control non-playable characters in a Brazilian Navy's navigation training simulation. The algorithm was effective to generate 19 different routes depicting 5 selected types of ships, from 76.179 AIS messages collected for 48 hours.
