The emotional work of the brazilian army military in united nations peacekeeping missions
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Conceptual expression ‘Emotional Work’ (TE) was initially adopted by Hochshild (1983), referring to the management, by the employees, of their own emotions or the emotions of others. The research in this area has expanded in various directions, covering a myriad of methodologies, gender issues and the consequences of the TE. This study, of qualitative nature, examined the categories or facets of the TE of Brazilian Army (EB) soldiers, who have been members of Peace missions under the UN aegis. After completing the quantitative measures of Guy, Newman and Mastracci’s (2008) TE models, 383 military provided written voluntary statements, optionally responding to the qualitative item, object of this study. The analysis of the content revealed that the most important facet of the TE is related to the emotional management developed by the superior officer towards his subordinates.
