Comparative Standards for Army Sizing: Which to Use?
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article presents a critique of the use of geographical aspects, such as population size, territorial extension of the country and extension of its land borders, as comparative standards for the sizing of the Brazilian Army. It links the preferential option for these criteria to the territorialist mentality of the Army, which emphasizes the size of the Force over other or more important aspects, such as its modernity and its operational efficiency. It suggests replacing or complementing geographical criteria with financial criteria, particularly the level of investments.
