Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Papers do not need to be completely original, however, they must be unpublished and must not be under consideration by other journals.
  • The paper has to be formatted according to the Template provided by the journal.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or Open Office format.
  • The text follows the caption, formatting and citation references according to ABNT standards.
  • URLs for references were provided whenever possible.
  • There is no evidence of plagiarism or self-plagiarism . (self-plagiarism is defined as: using previous research -article, dissertation, thesis, end-of-course paper - and presenting it ipsis litteris for publication, or parts of it, as something new and original.
  • One of the authors (at least) holds a Master's or doctor's degree.
  • The text was not written by generative AI, such as ChatGPT, Gemini and others.
  • I declare that I have read and agreed to the Journal ETHICS STATEMENT and PRIVACY STATEMENT
  • I declare that I have read and agreed with conditions above.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

1. Submission Format

a) Article and Experience Report Template
b) Guidelines for Writing Articles and Experience Reports

i. Submissions to the Revista Agulhas Negras (RAN) will be primarily reviewed based on their scientific merit.

ii. Citations and references presented within the text must adhere to Brazilian Rules ABNT NBR 10520 and 6023 standards, respectively.

iii. The submitted paper must conform to the formatting specified in the Article Template and should comprise between 08 and 25 pages.

iv. The abstract must not exceed 250 words and should encompass the following information: the objective of the work, materials and/or methods employed, results obtained, and principal conclusions.

v. The recommended structure for the article is as follows (utilize ABNT NBR 6024 for progressive numbering of sections):

*   Results and Discussions (of data)

vi. A maximum of three (03) authors is permitted per work, with at least one author possessing a Master's or Doctoral degree.

vii. The paper must be original and cannot be concurrently submitted for review to another journal.

viii. The Editors reserve the right to accept or reject the submitted paper for publication, in accordance with the editorial policy, at any stage of the review process.

ix. The Editors may propose modifications to the content of the paper and to its compliance with writing and presentation standards.

x. Papers approved for publication will undergo a final editing process, which includes orthographic and grammatical review.

xi. Within the OJS system, article submissions will be automatically rejected if the author does not accept the clauses pertaining to exclusivity, originality, and copyright.

xii. The OJS System meticulously records the submission date and all stages of the article's evaluation and editing process, thereby enabling authors to monitor the submission status automatically through the system.

xiii. The editors and/or any individual or institution affiliated with their collegiate bodies disclaim responsibility for the opinions, ideas, concepts, and positions articulated in the texts, as these remain the sole responsibility of their respective authors.

xiv. Reviews are conducted using standardized assessment forms, which include provisions for personalized comments. These comments are subsequently forwarded to the authors in instances of conditional acceptance or rejection.

 

2. Preparation for Submission

a) Submissions must pertain to the broad area of Concentration in Defense. Key thematic areas include (but are not restricted to):

*   Human Performance

*   Law

*   Education

*   Engineering and Construction

*   History

*   Artificial Intelligence

*   Leadership

*   Environment

*   Applied Psychology to Educational and Social Processes

*   International Relations

*   Health

*   Digital Simulation

*   Sociology

 

b) As an integral component of the submission process, authors must verify the submission's adherence to all criteria enumerated below. Submissions failing to comply with these standards will be returned to the authors.

I. The file must be in Microsoft Word or Open Office format (and must not exceed 2MB).

II. Foreign terms must be italicized, whereas neologisms or uncommon interpretations should be enclosed within quotation marks.

III.  Any identifying information regarding the authorship of the work must be expunged from the file and from the 'Properties' option in Microsoft Word.

IV. Figures and tables must be accompanied by their respective captions, citing the complete source.

V. Units of measurement must conform to the standards of the International System of Units (SI), as formulated by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) [www.bipm.org].

VI. The author(s) assume full responsibility for the content of the work submitted to RAN and grant authorization for its publication.

 

3. Textual Genres Accepted by RAN

The Revista Agulhas Negras – RAN Journal accepts submissions of the following textual genres for publication:

a) Article

b) Interview

c) Book Review

d) Experience Report

Articles

Texts and/or extracts from concluded researches, research synthesis.

Formatting: According to the Template.

Interview

The journal accepts interviews with researchers, theorists, personalities and military commanders who can contribute to discussions on topics relevant to Military Sciences.

- RAN accepts suggestions of interviewees and topics that may be relevant to the major area of ​​National Defense (aims and scope of the journal). Suggestions can be sent to: ran.editor@aman.eb.mil.br.
- Formatting: MS Word (.doc or .docx), Times New Roman font, size 12.

Interview Template

Review

The journal accepts Reviews of recent works, published in the last two years, related to the major area of ​​NATIONAL DEFENSE.

- The title should start with the word "Review" and keep the same name as the analyzed work.

- Language: submission in Portuguese, English or Spanish.

- Tables, graphics or illustrations will not be accepted in Reviews.

- Limit of 03 (three) pages. Larger reviews may be published as long as the authors present relevant justifications.

- There can be no more than 02 (two) authors per Review.

Experience Report

Brief experiences reports related to the National Defense major area Area will be accepted, as long as they present evidence methodologically adequate. 

The reports must follow the guides for the submission of Articles, according to Article Template.

Privacy Statement

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
