Abstract
The objective of this paper is to highlight the importance of the military-industrial complex for the process of economic development, as well as for the geopolitical strategy of countries that aspire to greater autonomy in the international system. In this regard, we will divide the article into two parts: in the first part, we will analyze the reasons for the development of a military-industrial complex and its importance for the great powers; in the second part, we will investigate the economic and technological contributions related to the defense economy; finally, in the third part we will briefly analyze the cases of the United States and China.
